This is no ordinary toaster. Hand-assembled in England and loaded with high-end features and can even keep food warm without toasting.

For those who like sandwiches toasted, this Dualit Vario toaster has extra-wide, pressure sensitive, spring-loaded slots for a "sandwich cage" (sold separately), with a special drip tray catching any cheese or filling that might fall out during toasting.

Switches control the degree of browning and the number of slots you wish to switch on. After toasting, your toast doesn't pop up (as it does with other toasters) but stays warm until the manual ejector knob in front is pushed up. There's also an adjustable rear foot and a removable crumb tray.

About Dualit: In 1946, Max Gort-Barten produced the original Dualit toaster in his workshop just off London's Old Kent Road. Designed for heavy-duty use, each Dualit Vario toaster is a blend of the simple and highly sophisticated. The patented ProHeat element uses a radical new heat pattern, encapsulated in a specially developed, high performance material, giving it a unique, protective layer. Each toaster is assembled by hand; you will find the assembler's individual mark on the base plate. Unlike any toaster out there (and there are so few purple toasters anyway), this is an Executive Toaster.

It works different than most automatic toasters, not trying to guess when your bread is done (and encouraging you to calibrate to bread) but toasting evenly.  It keeps the bread inside the toaster, staying warm, until you use the lever to raise it. : This means no lever/switch combined mechanism to bread (The Purple Store staff have personally lost a few toasters to this, donating another $40 each time to the Toaster Graveyard).

The ticking sound on the timer reminds you that you've got toast going, simply stopping when it's ready. : Note that, like all toasters, it will toast faster after the first run (once its already warm), so customers suggest toasting about 25% less time on the second set of toast.
