Le Creuset Purple Mortar and Pestle
What is a mortar and pestle? Which one is which? A mortar and pestle is used to grind or crush objects down to the size or consistency you want. In the kitchen it's great for getting the best taste out of spices or grinding down a bit of grain or other ingredients. Which is which? The mortar is the bowl holding the items while the pestle is the stick piece used to grind.
The Le Creuset mortar and pestle is glazed on the outside (and the top of the pestle), like their other stoneware pieces. The inside of the mortar and the bottom of the pestle are unglazed to provide texture and friction, ideal for grinding. With its unglazed interior, the purple Mortar & Pestle is designed for grinding fresh herbs and spices to release maximum flavor just before you cook. It's a tradition thousands of years old that still works well in the modern kitchen!
You get a mortar and pestle with each set and can save a bit if you'd like a second set for a friend!
